Country house H
A quiet archipelago home with a southern warmth
Set in the Swedish archipelago, Country House H brings a Mediterranean sensibility to its Nordic surroundings. Conceived as a retreat from the everyday, the house balances sculptural forms with the warmth of natural materials and an easy, welcoming atmosphere. There is a quiet appreciation of imperfection throughout: the open texture of stone, the grain of oak and the depth of aged metal give the rooms their character. Guided by the principles of wabi-sabi, the design allows these qualities to come forward through simple forms and careful craftsmanship.
Inside, stuccoed surfaces and wide oak floorboards provide a soft backdrop to substantial stone elements. From the entrance to the sculptural staircase and fireplace, stone lends a sense of continuity, its weight balanced by natural fabrics and subtle variations in texture. Blackened steel and aged bronze add darker notes, while unfilled travertine brings a richness of its own. The palette is restrained, but there is plenty to discover in the surfaces and details.
Materials carry through from outside to in, connecting the rooms to the surrounding landscape and giving the house a feeling of belonging to its setting.
Throughout Country House H, the emphasis is on the pleasure of living with these materials: a home that invites touch, rewards a closer look and offers space to settle in.
